My friend, Joan Ellen Smuda, is a candidate for Judge in the Democratic Party primary election on February 5, 2008. Joan has been an attorney for nearly 30 years and is an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois. Joan already has experience as a judge. The Illinois Supreme Court earlier appointed Joan to the bench on the basis of merit. She served with distinction for nearly 2 years in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Joan also was the first woman General Counsel of both the Polish Roman Catholic Union and the Polish Museum of America. She was in the private practice of law for more than twelve years.Joan is active in many civic and legal organizations. She has served as President of the National Advocates Society of Lawyers, in the assembly of the Illinois State Bar Association and as an active member of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. Joan is often invited to speak on legal issues at local and national conferences and seminars.

You will find Joan’s name on the Democratic Party primary ballot for the 10th Judicial Subcircuit. She is the third-listed candidate for the vacancy of the Hon. Aurelia Pucinski. Please look for her name and vote February 5, 2008 for Joan Ellen Smuda.
